Read Day 7 here
I am an English teacher and student of the Italian language currently teaching in Perugia, Italy for the company Angloville. I am working here for the week and writing about my trip in both English and Italian. My Italian is bad so expect lots of mistakes/Itenglish so don’t hesitate to correct me.
It was here. Presentation day. As well as the last full day of Angloville. My lads were a bit nervous, especially after Little Ema, but I reassured them this wasn’t like a presentation in school. It wasn’t a test or exam. It didn’t matter if you made mistakes. Just look at me. I make mistakes all the time in Italian and I don’t care. After a couple of practice runs, the kids were ready to go. I gave them a further pep talk reassuring them they would be great and we would be better than everybody else like the Americans, Nick and Lauren.

As I predicted, there was nothing to worry about. My lads were great – even little Ema. The other groups were good too (obviously not as good as mine) Ana and Matilde talked about Harry Potter, Michael talked about his cat and others spoke about football or music. Everybody did well.
Some free time later, it was time to finish writing all our notes to one another. You already know what I wrote for Nick, but as for the girls, I was equally silly. With the Manc Lucy, I wrote a series of Oasis references, with the Brummie Victoria I did a UB40 reference and Lauren got a load of Irish song references i.e Danny Boy, the Cranberries and Snow Patrol. I encouraged Maya to keep writing, gave tongue twisters to help Alex practice and reminded Ming that he is indeed the king.

During lunch, as I had learned that Mattia is really into chess, I asked him for some help on my chess games and we did some puzzles – the lad got 37 puzzles on Chess.com’s puzzle rush. Impressive.
At 3, it was time for the kids and us Ips to have a little treat. Angloville had arranged a cooking lesson for them. The resort chef came out and taught us how to make tagliatelle pasta. I like my cooking especially my Italian cooking, but I’ve never made pasta before. It was very exciting. The kids loved it. Well – not everybody did. Little Ema didn’t take part. Instead we did some tongue twisters in English and Italian.

He became obsessed with getting me to say them as fast as possible. He has developed so much over the last week. Even at meal times, he has come alive. He keeps filling everybody’s cups to the brim and he kept hitting me with his water bottle. Naughty naughty. Insert pictures
At 5.30, it was time for our final conversation session. There wasn’t a topic so we could talk about whatever we wanted. I was with Ton, little Ema, the other Emanuelle and King Ming. Initially, we did the guess who I am game before coordinator Giulia asked us to help her prepare for the water fight.
Little Ema took full charge here. While the rest of were struggling to even blow up the balloons, he became like a factory line, filling water balloons easy-peasy, squeeze the lemon. He was also none too pleased with the crappy water ballons I made. Instead of calling him the pope, I’ve changed his nickname to the boss.
Then at 6.30, the war commenced. The girls had the good sense to retreat to their rooms but us boys went all out. Balloons, water pistols, water bottles, the garden hose. The lads even dragged Izzy into the pool. It was absolute mayhem. Nick and I both got soaked. Nick’s shoes got so wet that he couldn’t even walk in them. I lent him my flip flops, or thongs as they say in Aussie land, and he then piggy-backed me around the venue. I then piggy-backed Midori. The water fight over and a cease fire called, it was time for a slightly later dinner of some very beefy beef burgers. Insert pictures. I started talking to Tom about films, as he is a big film fan and I showed him the 2015 edition of IMDB’s top 1000 films of all time which I am currently working through.

We have seen a lot of the same films including older ones like Jack Lemmon or Sergio Leone. Very impressive. And he’s only 13. He asked me if he should watch the Sopranos. I said yes, but only when he’s older. Although he has already watched Dexter so…
Anyway after dinner it was time to finish off the rest of my notes. I encouraged Mattia to keep doing chess puzzles, complimented Leo’s fluency, reminded Ela that she is the queen of her rock and told Gio he will be in the NBA one day. That covers the final full day of Angloville Italy. It was a day of presentations, Water fights and the new boss.
Dopo delle practicare, ho dato un discorso motivazione saying we would be the best…better than the Americans, Nick, Lauren etc…
Come ho pensato, tutti era benissimo.
Bravissimo.
Ancora e ancoro, m’ha detto to say the tongue twisters il piu veloce. Ha sviluppato molto over the week. Particularmente a Pranzo e cena. He kept filling everybody’s cups to the brim and he kept hitting me with his water bottle. Molto Monello.
Mentre tutti fare fatica a gonfiare i palloncini era easy-peasy squeeze the lemon per Ema.
Absolutamente. Nick e io ha inzuppato. Le sue scarpe erano troppo bagnati per a piedi quindi l’ho prestato i miei flipflops (or thongs as they say in Aussie land) e m’ha datto un trasporto a cavalcioni. Midori was feeling a bit left out quindi l’ho datto un trasporto a cavalcioni anche.
Allora, dopo la cena, ho finito the rest of my notes.
